Natural head lice treatment

Natural head lice treatments have come a long way in the past decade whereby now there is ample choice between both pesticide based and natural treatments.

In the later part of the past decade there have been numerous tests conducted to compare natural head lice treatment and chemical treatments. It has become noticed that these pesticide (or insecticide) based treatments are becoming less effective in the way of treating head lice as the head lice are becoming more resistant to them.

A study conducted in Brisbane, Australia in 1997 showed that head lice prevalence has risen to nearly 38%, and that the success rate of the common insecticide permethrin has dropped from 95% to about 60%. There are also products based on malathion, an organophosphate, and on synthetic pyrethrins. Some treatments also contain piperonyl butoxide and benzyl benzoate. These are all hazardous chemicals that can be potentially harmful to the human health, and particularly harmful to children, babies and pregnant mothers. It is important when using these types of treatments to follow the instructions carefully.

As a caution ensure you always read the label of the product you purchase and only use as directed. Why not try a test patch on a small area of the scalp to check for irritation before progressing with the complete treatment. NitWits Natural do not recommend using products on children under the age of 2 years of age without first seeking medical advice.

Back in the day before head lice treatments were available in every pharmacy and supermarket mums were commonly using natural pantry products such as vinegar, mayonnaise and olive oil to treat head lice. Doesn’t do much in the way of fragrance, but using the same principles there are natural head lice treatment products on the market that use active natural ingredients that are plant and herbal extracts.

Treating the problem at hand is relatively straight forward, however accuracy is key to ensure you stop the head lice life cycle.

3 steps to WIN THE FIGHT AGAINST NITS
Step 1. Treat
A treatment will suffocate or paralyze the adult lice.

Step 2. Comb
Thorough combing will remove the dead head lice and eggs.

Step 3. Defend
Ward of lurching head lice to help avoid an infestation.

It is strongly recommended to repeat steps one (treatment) and two (combing) to ensure the complete removal of all unhatched eggs. We are only human and it is highly possible that the first round of combing may miss some of the head lice eggs and it takes just one hatched nit to start the whole breeding cycle again.

NitWits Natural have developed a range of natural head lice treatment products, free from potentially harmful pesticides, using natural ingredients to effectively tackle head lice and their eggs. Products include treatments, defence sprays and combs – to help you WIN the fight against nits.

Always read the label. Use only as directed.
